Ansvar's Chile-bound volunteer feels the draught
February 2009
Many of the staff working at Ansvar, the insurance company specialising in the not-for-profit sector, are themselves committed to charitable and voluntary work. Case in point – Peter McMahon, a student who has been working at the Eastbourne-based insurers during his gap year. Together with a team of young volunteers, Peter will soon be heading off to Chile to support a community church project run under the auspices of Latin Link, a non-denominational church charity.
Peter, who is co-leader of the team, said: “We will be working alongside two church communities in highly deprived areas of Chile, principally to assist in the construction of a new church building and to renovate another which is in a dreadful state of repair. These churches are at the centre of community activities including health and child care - and we will also be helping out in these areas of community life.”
The team has been busy raising sponsorship for their mission – and Peter decided he would raise the profile of his fund-raising activities by having his head completely shaved. Joining him in this hair raising stunt was his father Colin McMahon, who is Ansvar’ s IT and Administration Manager.
