Adfam
Adfam is a drug and alcohol charity that aims to improve the quality of life for families affected by drug and alcohol use.
Adfam was founded in 1984 by the mother of a heroin addict who could not find the support she needed for herself. Over the last 26 years Adfam has evolved into an umbrella organisation which not only helps families, but also helps other groups who share Adfam’s independent history; Adfam also works closely with government and other bodies to ensure that families are kept on the agenda in wider discussion of ‘the drug problem’in the UK.
A charity with a focus on supporting family members affected by addiction by improving their quality of life through various programmes and projects, such as:
- Developing prevention programmes for carers, parents and other family members through drug education initiatives, increasing good practice, knowledge and expertise and engaging vulnerable family members
- Working with the department of health and the criminal justice services to reduce the potential for substance related harm to prisoners, families and the wider community and to improve rehabilitation
- Adfam also helps to ensure that the needs of families are accounted for on a national policy level through various forums, steering groups and advisory bodies including the Department of Health, Department for Children and the Department for Education.
Adfam relies on a variety of sources to funding different work streams. If you would like to contribute yourself please follow the link below. http://www.adfam.org.uk/about_us/our_funders
